001- It's about time
Mindful Photography is here. Let me tell what what it is about.
I've been the best at putting this newsletter off for so long. Now, I finally made it to this first-ever Newsletter of mine. Glad to have you with me. Welcome to Mindful Photography.
I want this Newsletter to be a platform for my thoughts on photography. I want to touch on client jobs from the past months, recent photo projects and photographs I took during my travels. I want this to be a new way of expressing my thoughts and sharing my learnings and updates on my work, which goes a little deeper than any Instagram post will probably ever be.
From now on, you’ll get this newsletter in your Mailbox every time it comes alive. Maybe it’s once a month, perhaps it’s once a week. Let’s see. But one of the most fantastic things about this newsletter is that you can re-read it anytime - online.
Even though I never liked reading, I always felt drawn to putting my thoughts into words. I’ve never really shared my thoughts in some form of text, though. But I still believe that putting something into its purest form, whether it’s some form of visual art, music or even words, can be extremely powerful.
So, here we are — just me, sharing my experiences from my photographic journey. Thanks for being here.
Mindful Photography
… that’s how the Newsletter is titled. Everyone who knows me in person knows that mindfulness plays a huge role in my life. I’m a sucker for productivity hacks, self-development and mindfulness. But how do these topics fit into photography?
I want to be honest with you: I have no idea. But I realised that some things don’t have to make sense if they feel right to you. And since humans are forced to make rational decisions way too often anyway, I would instead stick to my gut feeling this time.
Copenhagen Studios - Hygge House 2023
To kick off this Newsletter with some photographic work, I’m pleased to show you some photographs I took throughout a trip to Swedish Lapland, which happened to be one of my favourite productions of all time: Copenhagen Hygge House 2023

Photography: Tobias Holzweiler, Jeremy Möller
Videography: Norman Keutgen
Edit: Clemens Florack
Assistance: Anatol Lauschke
Production: The Wants Social
Location: Luleå, Sweden
I was asked to document the entire trip on both digital and film alongside Jeremy Möller while we put out all photographs as same-day delivery, as well as the video team did with daily Vlogs.
Day One: The first days started with a shooting in a tiny Swedish town called Gammelstad, which made for a great shooting location.

Later, we headed off to explore Swedish nature. We were guided through a magical forest and were taught to light up a campfire (which they teach in Swedish schools, too). The sunlight was stunning, to say the least.

We ended day one with one of the most magical things ever to imagine: the Northern Lights.
Day Two: We explored Swedish nature even further and made friends with some reindeer.

Before I end this newsletter, I want to share some of my favourite film photographs from the trip.
You can find all of my highlight photos on my website:

I’ve uploaded a video about the time in Swedish Lapland. You can watch it on my YouTube Channel.
I hope you enjoyed this first episode of “Mindful Photography”. I’ll be back with a new one shortly.
Talk soon.
Tobias
